SVO Paint Technician
Join Aston Martin, one of the world's most iconic luxury automotive brands, and become part of our Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Paint team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Paint Technician to contribute to the creation of bespoke, low-volume and special-edition vehicles, delivering the exceptional craftsmanship and flawless finish synonymous with the Aston Martin name.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in preparing, painting and polishing components, test samples and complete vehicles. The role also involves the application of graphics, carbon material tinting and specialist finishes, with a strong emphasis on achieving best-in-class paint quality, precision and visual excellence.
As an SVO Paint Technician, you will be responsible for preparing vehicles and components to an exceptional standard, utilising a broad range of materials and preparation techniques to achieve optimum results. You will apply advanced surface preparation methods, including fillers and high-build coatings, inspect components and vehicles for defects prior to paint application, and carry out refinishing activities in accordance with established quality standards.
The role requires expertise in the application of both water-based and solvent-based paint systems, together with experience of a variety of clear coat processes and repair techniques. You will be expected to undertake paint repairs ranging from minor refinishing work through to full vehicle paint applications, while consistently delivering show-car quality polishing and finishing standards. Panel repair experience is also essential, with the ability to restore and refine surfaces to the highest cosmetic standards.
Working within a clean and controlled environment, you will contribute both independently and as part of a collaborative team, balancing productivity with meticulous attention to detail. Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to quality will be key to your success in this role.
To be considered, you will have completed a recognised apprenticeship in automotive paint refinishing or vehicle repair and possess a minimum of five years' experience within an automotive, prototype or high-end manufacturing environment. You will have a proven track record of working with a range of paint systems and manufacturers, experience preparing and finishing low-volume or prototype panels to Class-A standards, and the ability to independently prepare, paint and polish complete vehicles and components to OEM and customer-facing quality requirements.
Experience delivering show-car level polishing and finishing is essential, as is the ability to fill, shape and refine hand-formed or prototype panels to exceptional standards. Additional qualifications such as an HND or equivalent are desirable but not essential.
Flexibility is important, and applicants should be willing to work overtime at short notice, including evenings and weekends, to support programme milestones, critical deadlines and demanding build schedules.
